James Mi '92 is a Founding Partner of Lightspeed China Partners (LCP), a leading China-focused early-stage venture capital firm. He ranks No 59 on Forbes 2018 VC Midas List of Top VC globally, and is on Forbes China Media List of Top VC in China.
James's early stage investments include Pingduoduo (PDD: Nasdaq), Rong360 (JT: NYSE), Innolight (SHE:300308), Lianluo (SHE: 222280) and Meituan/Dianping (03690.HK).
James brings 16 years of operations experience at leading high-tech companies and startup. Before founding Lightspeed China, James was global partner of Lightspeed Venture Partners (LSVP), a leading early stage venture capital firm in US. Prior to LSVP, James spearheaded Google’s early efforts in China, first as its Head of Asia Products and the Chief Representative of Google China, and later as a Director of Corporate Development, responsible for strategies, products and investments. During this tenure, he led investments in leading Chinese Internet companies, including Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU), Dianping, Xunlei (NASDAQ: XNET) and Ganji (Acquired by 58, NYSE: WUBA).
Before joining Google, James co-founded a venture-backed startup, iTelco Communications, a VOIP global communication products and services company. Prior to iTelco, James was with Intel, where he held management positions in engineering, marketing, product management, and business development. He co-invented MLC NOR Flash technology, which developed into Intel's billion-dollar StrataFlash business.
James received a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and a B.S. in Physics from Fudan University. In addition, James received executive management training at Stanford University. James holds 14 U.S. patents in flash memory, communications, Internet security, and commerce.
