The Economic Mobility Pillar is a newly launched team within the NYCEDC’s Initiative department which is dedicated to growing and diversifying key industries in New York City. New York City is home to a dynamic economy, but disparities in economic opportunity require a forward-thinking approach to building a more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable economy. The Economic Mobility Initiative plays a vital role in catalyzing equitable opportunities and economic development outcomes for New Yorkers. The Economic Mobility team runs the Childcare Innovation Lab and leads investments, initiatives, and innovations to address the root causes of economic disparity and to enable low- and moderate-income New Yorkers to reach financial security, build wealth and move up the economic ladder, in turn strengthening NYC’s economy at large.
The Childcare Innovation Lab: The Childcare Innovation Lab (CIL) aims to re-frame access to childcare as a core economic development issue rather than a private family matter by leading research about the effect of childcare on NYC's economy and families; and working with NYC employers and fellow government agencies to catalyze public-private collaboration and innovation that can expand accessible, affordable, quality childcare solutions and support working women and families.

Internship Description
The Economic Mobility (EM) team is seeking a passionate intern to join our dynamic interdisciplinary team committed to making New York City a more prosperous place to live and work. The EM initiative plays a vital role in catalyzing equitable opportunities and economic development outcomes for New Yorkers and runs the Childcare Innovation Lab (CIL) which is working to secure NYC’s position as a leading hub for childcare thought leadership and innovation. This is a unique opportunity to work on a new exciting and creative project within the organization and to work with a wide variety of EDCers from across many departments!
Responsibilities:
- Assist the EM and CIL team in all aspects of the project management lifecycle, including strategic analysis, procurement and planning, partnership development, and project implementation
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on both the economic mobility and childcare landscape in NYC and beyond and the effects of access to services on the economy, households, and businesses.
- Create presentations that effectively communicate research findings, project findings and/or project recommendations to multiple audiences
- Help team plan, coordinate, and execute events supporting the full range of projects
- Assist in drafting memorandums, and other materials for pre- and post-launch projects
- Help team with communications strategy and execution including writing copy for multiple traditional and social media
- Other duties as assigned
Additional Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interest in economic development, urban planning, public policy, social impact, women’s rights, NYC government and/or business development
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented and organized, with ability to multi-task and manage deadlines
- Proactive self-starter and team player; able to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams
- Research, partnership presentation, event planning and social media skills preferred
