What if robots could “forget” how to do harm? Asimov Box is engineering ethical boundaries into the future of autonomy.

Lead: Prof. Alex Glaser (supported by Prof. Ryo Morimoto)

Departments: Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Anthropology, SPIA

Asimov Box, led by Professors Alex Glaser and Ryo Morimoto, has been selected for DFI funding to explore how robots and AI systems can be designed to prevent misuse, even in adversarial settings. Combining insights from engineering, anthropology, and policy, the team will develop a prototype that embodies principles of ethical restraint, public trust, and dual-use awareness, exemplifying DFI’s mission to support ventures that rethink the social contract between technology and society.
