Neighborhood Benches (NB) is a small, grassroots organization designed to enter communities of color and difficult to engage with a mission to break the cycle of youth violence and incarceration. NB designs educational tools that influence change at the local leaders level, empowers young people on leadership and good practical skills, and changes the community narrative.

Internship Description

Public affairs relates to matters that affect the public directly, such as legislation or public administration. As an intern with unique data science skills, you should have business acumen and analytical skills as well as the ability to mine, clean, and present data. Businesses use data scientists to source, manage, and analyze large amounts of unstructured data. As the Data Science & Public Affairs intern you will help analyze the information/research gathered for the Safe At Home report and assist NB with collecting the data needed to improve the support provided from elected officials to those residing in public housing, specifically NYCHA. You will also work collaboratively with Tenant Associations and the Data Science & Public Relations Intern to create recommendations that will improve the resources provided to those residing in public housing/NYCHA.

Together with the Data Science & Public Relations Intern, the team will improve the mission of Tenant Associations and the support provided by NYC to NYCHA using the recommendations and reports from 2017 developed by elected official such as Vanessa Gibson, Ritchie Torres, Ruben Diaz Jr., and Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark.
