In this class (previously titled Community Project Studios - Studio 3: eLab), students learn how to apply critical thinking and analytical skills to creating sustainable value-producing systems, organizations, and enterprises that are valued and supported by existing well-defined communities or groups. This class is for student entrepreneurs who feel deeply about a project they are already working on and want to figure out how to make the product or design valuable on an ongoing basis to a group or community. By the end of this class sequence students will have designed and created smooth functioning products, services, systems, or actions that actual groups or communities want and are willing to fund going forward.
Prerequisites and Restrictions:
EGR 380-381 is a year-long sequence (PDF) that awards one course credit after students complete both courses. EGR 380 does not carry credit, but is the prerequisite required for enrolling in the spring course EGR 381. Students of all majors (AB and BSE) and class years, including graduate students, are encouraged to seek enrollment (ENT 200 or the instructor's permission is required).
Other Information:
This is an experiential class where each team receives bespoke instruction (via weekly, individual team-instructor meetings) relative to their specific situations and the application of each student's actual knowledge, skills, and experiences under differing sets of known and unknown externalities. Students must apply as teams to be admitted to the class, and decisions to admit teams will depend upon the level of commitment of each member as well as existing progress in the development of the value creating idea.
